Principal's Message - April 20, 2023

Dear Families,

Hoping all are well!

It has become necessary for me to review our arrival and dismissal times, and procedures as it impacts students being present for instructional time and the safety of all. Additionally, as we try to impart in our children the need for rules, and goals for equity, we as the adults must model these expectations, even when they cause an inconvenience. I am hoping that our families will recognize and respect the school start and ending times.

Stillmeadow’s day begins at 8:10 and officially ends at 2:40. All buses are scheduled to arrive in order for students to be here on time. Although driving your students is your choice, the expectation is that students are in the building by 8:10. As driving your child to school is a rolling drop of process, you need to anticipate timing to make it by 8:10. The doors open at 7:40 for student arrival. I witness, daily, parents pulling up to the front of the building, parking in the fire lane, and dropping students as late as 8:30 and 8:45. I am asking you to rethink the routines at home so that students are not being hurried in the morning, but are understanding the importance of being on time to school. When students arrive at 8:30 and 8:45, they have missed instruction, and in the lower grades, this instructional time is the foundational reading skills that are critical to students' success.

Very important to note:

• During the dismissal times, families are not complying with the rolling car line pick up. If this does not work for you, you must use the school bus option.
• We cannot accommodate parents walking to or parking and arriving at the car rider dismissal doors.
• Students that are walkers are designated walkers as they are not provided with bus transportation due to the proximity to school. In order to ensure safety of students and support that there is no possibility of an intruder, we must be consistent in which students are released and to whom, as well as be able to manage the volume/crowd of adults.

When you park your car and expect to receive your child, you are causing safety concerns as now we are asked to stop traffic so families can cross through the car line, or walk through the parking lot. Additionally, it does not show respect to our families who are following the rules. I am sure their time is valuable as well. As the weather is getting warmer, I understand that you may have after school plans. Please adjust your plans to comply with the dismissal process which typically concludes no earlier than 3:00. Please respect that my job and the staff on duty is to ensure the safety of all students, ensure students are learning the important executive functioning skills of being on time, and managing their routines to accomplish this. Most importantly, we teach our students about fairness, responsibility, respecting rules and the intention of rules, which most often support safety. Please help me and your children as the procedures I am asking you to follow are for the good of all

Queridas familias,

¡Esperando que todos estén bien!

Se ha vuelto necesario para mí revisar nuestros horarios de llegada y salida, y los procedimientos, ya que esto afecta a los estudiantes que están presentes durante el tiempo de instrucción y la seguridad de todos. Además, a medida que tratamos de impartir en nuestros hijos la necesidad de reglas y metas para la equidad, nosotros, como adultos, debemos modelar estas expectativas, incluso cuando causan un inconveniente. Espero que nuestras familias reconozcan y respeten los horarios de inicio y finalización de la escuela.

El día de Stillmeadow comienza a las 8:10 y termina oficialmente a las 2:40. Todos los autobuses están programados para llegar para que los estudiantes lleguen a tiempo. Aunque conducir a sus estudiantes es su elección, la expectativa es que los estudiantes estén en el edificio a las 8:10. Como llevar a su hijo a la escuela es un proceso rotativo, debe anticipar el tiempo para llegar a las 8:10. Las puertas se abren a las 7:40 para la llegada de los estudiantes. Soy testigo, a diario, de padres que se detienen en la parte delantera del edificio, se estacionan en el carril de bomberos y dejan a los estudiantes hasta las 8:30 y las 8:45. Les pido que reconsideren las rutinas en casa para que los estudiantes no tengan prisa por la mañana, sino que entiendan la importancia de llegar a tiempo a la escuela. Cuando los estudiantes llegan a las 8:30 y 8:45, han faltado a la instrucción, y en los grados inferiores, este tiempo de instrucción es la habilidad fundamental de lectura que son fundamentales para el éxito de los estudiantes.

Muy importante a tener en cuenta:

• Durante los tiempos de salida, las familias no están cumpliendo con la recogida de la línea de automóviles rodantes. Si esto no funciona para usted, debe usar la opción de autobús escolar.
• No podemos acomodar a los padres que caminan o estacionan y llegan a las puertas de salida del conductor del automóvil.
• Los estudiantes que caminan a la escuela son designados caminantes, ya que no se les proporciona transporte en autobús debido a la proximidad a la escuela. Para garantizar la seguridad de los estudiantes y apoyar que no hay posibilidad de un intruso, debemos ser consistentes en qué estudiantes son entregados y a quién, así como ser capaces de manejar el volumen / multitud de adultos.

Cuando estaciona su automóvil y espera recibir a su hijo, está causando problemas de seguridad, ya que ahora se nos pide que detengamos el tráfico para que las familias puedan cruzar la línea de automóviles o caminar por el estacionamiento. Además, no muestra respeto a nuestras familias que siguen las reglas. Estoy segura de que su tiempo también es valioso.

A medida que el clima se está volviendo más cálido, entiendo que puede tener planes después de la escuela. Por favor, ajuste sus planes para cumplir con el proceso de despido que generalmente concluye no antes de las 3:00. Por favor, respete que mi trabajo y el personal de turno es garantizar la seguridad de todos los estudiantes, asegurar que los estudiantes aprendan las importantes habilidades de funcionamiento ejecutivo de llegar a tiempo y administrar sus rutinas para lograr esto. Lo más importante, enseñamos a nuestros estudiantes sobre la equidad, la responsabilidad, el respeto de las reglas y la intención de las reglas, que a menudo apoyan la seguridad. Por favor, ayúdenme a mí y a sus hijos, ya que los procedimientos que les pido que sigan son para el bien de todos.

Dear Stillmeadow Families,

Welcome Spring! I hope that it brings lots of sunshine and the beauty of Spring flowers.

Yesterday, we highlighted our K-3 students in their mini musical performances. I hope you had the opportunity to attend, and if not we will capture some highlights for our website. Many thanks to Ms. Harris, and Mr. Farfone and all the teachers who supported the students as they prepared for this performance.       

Many Thanks to our PFO and the parent volunteers who will open our book fair this week. Our students love this opportunity to shop for books. Parents will have the opportunity to shop during the early release days for parent teacher conferences on Wednesday, March 22nd- Friday, March 24th. Please be sure to take this opportunity to learn how your child is progressing towards year end academic goals.    

Finally, our school climate survey opens today, and will remain open until March 31st for our families to complete. This is very important to me as your principal. The data collected from this survey helps guide my work on school improvement efforts, and social emotional focuses with our whole school community for a positive school climate. This year, based on the last survey results, I have focused on “respect” and sense of belonging, among all students at school.

Please take a few moments to complete the survey. Estimadas familias de Stillmeadow,

¡Hemos llegado a la primavera, bienvenida! Espero que traiga mucho sol y la belleza de las flores de primavera.

Ayer destacamos a nuestros alumnos de K-3 en sus mini presentaciones musicales. Espero que haya tenido la oportunidad de asistir y, de lo contrario, hemos capturado algunos puntos destacados para nuestra página web. Muchas gracias a la Srta. Harris, al Sr. Farfone y a todos los maestros que apoyaron a los estudiantes mientras se preparaban para esta presentación.

Muchas gracias a nuestra Organización de Facultad de Padres o por su siglas en inglés (PFO) y a los padres voluntarios que abrirán nuestra feria del libro esta semana. A nuestros estudiantes les encanta esta oportunidad de comprar libros. Los padres tendrán la oportunidad de comprar durante los días de salida temprano por las conferencias de padres y maestros del miércoles 22 de marzo al viernes 24 de marzo. Asegúrese de aprovechar esta oportunidad para aprender cómo su hijo está progresando hacia las metas académicas de fin de año.

Finalmente, nuestra encuesta sobre el clima escolar se abre hoy y permanecerá abierta hasta el 31 de marzo para que la completen nuestras familias. Esto es muy importante para mí como directora. Los datos recopilados de esta encuesta ayudan a guiar mi trabajo en los esfuerzos de mejora escolar y los enfoques socioemocionales con toda nuestra comunidad escolar para un clima escolar positivo. Este año, en base a los resultados de la última encuesta, me he centrado en el “respeto” y el sentido de pertenencia entre todos los estudiantes de la escuela.

Por favor tómese unos minutos para completar la encuesta. Si necesita ayuda, habrá personal disponible para ayudarlo durante las conferencias de padres y maestros en las tardes de salida temprana. Los enlaces a continuación lo llevarán a la encuesta en el idioma de su elección.

Dear Stillmeadow Families,

I’d like to share a huge sentiment of gratitude for the wonderful school community that made our Halloween Hop such a spectacular event for all of us. It takes lots of coordination, donations, and volunteers to pull off this event. Our trunk or treat displays were a fantastic showing of both spooky and Fall Harvest. The pumpkin patch and decorating, and all of the activities for students provided such joy. Thank you to Kona Ice who always supports Stillmeadow, and all the families who donated candy and baked goods, which will help support some of our field trips.

Dear Stillmeadow Families,

Last week, at the principal’s coffee, I was pleased to have many participants who joined me in person.

We had the opportunity to discuss the importance of our school compact document, and the feedback received by parents stressed the importance of having our students understand their responsibilities, as students, in their education.
